Our friend, George Habel who works with Capital Broadcasting and The Durham Bulls offers this latest installment even as The Bulls clinched their division this week! Thanks George. Feel free to utilize this as a bulletin insert or to read this as an introduction to the Sunday morning offering…..

Generously Speaking 6.0
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. NRSV Matthew 6:21
Your words, Jesus, and they convict. You see my checkbook register and credit card statement. You know my finances. You know my heart.
What is it with me? It seems that material success is a form of heart disease.
You’re not holding back. You’ve given me great treasure. Indeed, I have a sense of gratitude, but I need a greater sense of contentment, a greater love for your Church and a much bigger heart for people in need. From everyone to whom much has been given, much will be required; and from the one to whom much has been entrusted, even more will be demanded. NRSV Luke 12:48
Your words again, Lord. Inspire us to do more with all that you have entrusted to us. We need to be about greater purposes, looking to greater ends for you and your kingdom. Amen.

I’ve written several hundred prayers (about six million bytes) for the weekly men’s Bible study at Benson Memorial UMC in Raleigh, NC. I was a member of that group for seven years.

Prayer-writing is outstanding spiritual therapy. I admire people who can pray spontaneously, but there’s something to be said for word craft, especially when the words are offered to the Lord.
